Diabetes and Your Oral Health

Posted .

This month we are discussing diabetes and oral health care. One of the effects of diabetes on the mouth is a slower healing process for mouth sores. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, you may already be aware of how the condition affects your mouth and gums. To increase the healing process of mouth sores, keep your mouth clean and healthy. Be sure to have routine dental exams and cleanings, and maintain a good daily routine of brushing and flossing. By planning ahead and discussing a plan of action with Dr. Petrusha or Dr. Selasky and your physician, you will be prepared to handle adjustments in controlling your blood sugar if an infection occurs. In order for us to work together with you on maintaining your blood sugar and oral health, our team needs to know the medications you are taking. Updating your health and medical records during each visit will assist us in helping you maintain your optimum health.
